What are natural hair colours?
Natural hair colours are hair dyes that are extracted from vegetables and plants. Normally, the dyes are used in their purest extract form and do not contain any chemicals such as ammonia, phenylenediamine, and resorcinol. Natural hair colors on the other hand, are non-toxic and do not pose any harmful affects to a persons health or the environment. The hair is not damaged and in the majority of cases, the hair is conditioned by the ingredients and is not harmful even when used long term.
Natural hair colours still may cause a reaction if a person is allergic to the all-natural ingredient. If you purchase your natural hair colours at the retail store, there may be ingredients included such as leads, metals, or mercury, which can cause a reaction or irritate the skin of some individuals. That is why with all hair colouring products you will find an area explaining how to take a patch test.
A patch done is performed by placing a small amount of hair colour on the skin on inner arm at the end of the elbow or behind the ear. If you have any type of rash or hives then you should not use the hair colour to dye your hair. Some hair colour products ask that you perform a strand test. This will give you an idea of what the dye will do to your hair, even though the total application may not give the same result.
The natural hair colours are not the same as the hair coloring dyes that use chemicals. In most cases, henna, walnut hulls, castor beans, and other natural items are used to colour the hair. In the majority of cases, you cannot change the color of your hair drastically from lets say black hair to platinum blonde without the use of chemicals.
Natural hair colours uses plants and minerals to achieve the effects you want for your hair, normally one to three shades difference. In order to go quite a bit lighter you will need to use some type of bleaching agent, which of course brings on the necessity to use chemicals.
You can still enjoy using natural hair colours without chemicals. Permanent natural hair colours that contain no bleach or peroxide will not lift the color from your hair the reason you cannot receive a lighter shade. All natural hair colours are designed to enhance the shade of your hair, cover grey, and either deepen or highlight your color.
